My favorite Weird Wheels card ever. Very bizarre.

Here’s a quick story for you. Growing up, my brother was a hardcore baseball card fan who would often go to collector’s events. Always looking for neat cards or comics, I would happily tag along. So on September 25, 1983, the whole family went to a card show in Valley Forge, PA. I remember vividly being fascinated by a set of Rocky Horror Picture Show cards I saw at the show even though I didn’t know what the movie was yet. Foreshadowing! Anyways, I saw the Weird Wheels cards and begged my folks to buy me the set of them. They eventually gave in and soon I was wrapped up in their grotesque wonder. On the drive home, we were all listening to the car radio when we learned that Philadelphia weatherman/beloved TV personality Jim O’Brien had died in a skydiving accident. We all sat silent in the car for the rest of the ride and suddenly I wasn’t interested in my Weird Wheels any more.
