Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. extended trailer.

I’m really impressed by this. Anyone else getting a Torchwood vibe here? Bring it on.

Time for a history lesson kids. Back in the 1980s, film studios would often set up phone lines to promote their would-be blockbusters. The most successful of these promotions was for The Empire Strikes Back, though movies like Ghostbusters also got in on the action. Not all of the 1-800 or 1-900 numbers were met with such a warm response however. Above you hear a recording from Universal’s Howard the Duck phone line. Callers were met with the voice of Howard (Broadway veteran Chip Zien) making horrific duck-based puns and doing Dickie Goodman-style interviews with the film’s various characters — including Tim Robbins’ Dr. Phil Blumburtt.

The first of these calls can be heard above. It’s a whopping eight minutes long, and even fans of the goofy flick will admit that it is a challenge to get through. But here on the Internet one person’s pain is another’s love for “quack fu” jokes, so if you’re into this stuff, you can hear the rest here, here and here.

Waugh!
